Do this before upgrading!

  • Clear out space: delete the photos and apps you don’t need or want anymore to free up storage, shorten the waiting duration for back up, also save you some money if you are purchasing extra iCloud storage subscriptions.
  • Create a backup: backup your devices using iCloud, Finder on Mac, or iTunes on a PC.

iOS New Features and guide to using them

App Library:

apps are automatically organized in the App Library and sorted into categories. You do NOT need to show all apps on the home screen!

How to use App Libary:

Search for an app in the App Library

  • App Library > search field > enter the app that you're looking for > tap the app

Delete an app from the App Library

  • App Library > search field to open the list > Touch and hold the app icon > Delete App Trash can icon > Delete again to confirm.

Screen Widgets:

don’t be envious of Android users, iPhone can now have widgets on the home screen! With multiple sizes available, the Smart Stack widget will show you information from multiple apps when it thinks you need it.

How to use Screen Widgets:

  • You can long-press an app > Edit Home Screen > Tap the + icon in the top left corner
  • The available widgets will be shown > Add Widget on your home screen
  • Reposition your widget by moving it around > Tap Done to save your changes
  • Create your own widgets by dragging ones of the same size

Picture in Picture on iPhone:

create a thumbnail image while you are on another app or home screen.

How to use the Picture in Picture Mode:

  • Tap on the Picture in Picture icon available at the top of the compatible app.
  • Double-tapping on the video with two fingers or swipe upward from the bottom of the iPhone’s display.

How to exist out of the Picture in Picture Mode:

  • Return to full screen with reopening the app by tapping on the same icon in the upper right corner or double-tapping with two fingers.
  • Tapping on the X in the upper left corner.

Apple Clips

App Clip is a small part of an app that saves you time and designed to load within seconds to complete a task. They can be easily operated and accessed by

  • Scanning a code,
  • NFC tags,
  • QR codes,
  • Shared in Messages,
  • Or from Safari

Translate App:

iOS 14 rolled out a baked-in Translate app that can convert text and hold conversations with someone who only speaks a different language.

  • Supported languages: English, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese, and Russian.
  • You can either type in the phrase you want to translate or tap the microphone icon at the bottom of the screen to use voice-to-text.
  • You can also save translations in the Favorites tab for easy access later.

Compact calls:

Calls from your iPhone, FaceTime, and third-party apps display in a new compact design that will not take up the full screen. Phone calls are only shown in banner format when your phone is unlocked and in use. The full-screen notification will still present.

Messages:

  • Pinned conversations: pin-up to nine of your most important conversations to the top of your conversation list so you can easily get to them.
  • Visual group photos: join a group visual identity by adding a photo, an emoji, or Memoji.
  • Mentions: Type a name to mention someone in a message by highlighting the names.
  • Inline replies: reply directly to a specific message in a group conversation.

Siri:

Siri has a new look that allows you to search for information or get things done while still focusing on what you are doing. There are a few new Siri Shortcuts, including “Do Not Disturb timer” or “Save battery mode” when your phone hits a certain battery level. In iOS 14, Shortcuts will run seamlessly in the background.
