Guidance

Despite petitions calling for more stimulus, there are no signs that the 4th stimulus check will be coming. However, some Americans will still be getting another payment in 2022. For those who did not receive their full stimulus payments in 2021, they still have the chance to claim the money on their 2021 tax return. Besides, various states across the USA are also organizing their own stimulus checks and payouts to help their residents.

For those who haven't yet received the full amount of their 2021 stimulus payments that they were entitled to, they still have a chance to backdate their stimulus checks. If you didn't qualify for a third Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amount, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 income tax return. To get the remaining stimulus money back, it will be necessary to file a 2021 tax return to claim the credit. The rebate, which comes as a tax credit of up to $1,400 per eligible person on your 2021 return, will either reduce the amount of tax you owe for 2021 or boost the size of your tax refund.

Some people may be due extra stimulus money because of their changed circumstances. Parents of children born in 2021 who claim the child as a dependent on their 2021 income tax return may be eligible to receive up to $1,400 per child by claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit. All eligible parents of qualifying children born in 2021 are also encouraged to claim the child tax credit—worth up to $3,600 per child born in 2021—on their 2021 income tax return. In order to get the new stimulus check for having a baby, eligible parents can receive the extra money after filing their tax return.
